Our Mission
What is Puck4ACure?
Simply put, our mission is to raise awareness and funds through youth sports to support Type 1 Diabetes research and families — but Puck4ACures is so much more than a mission statement.
Our journey began in August 2022, when our son Reilly was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 8 years old. Like so many families who suddenly “join the club,” we felt overwhelmed, isolated, and searching for a way to make sense of it all. We knew we wanted to do more — to turn fear into purpose. If there was even a chance we could help fund research toward a cure, we were all in.
As we explored local fundraising options, we found many large, corporate events doing important work — but we couldn’t shake the feeling that much of the money raised wasn’t going directly to research. Between overhead, salaries, and operating costs, the impact felt diluted. We wanted something different. Something personal. Something rooted in community.
So we brainstormed around what could bring people together — and what our son truly loves: hockey.
In April 2024, the very first Puck4ACures Hockey Tournament was born. What started as just four squirt-level games quickly grew into a full community event, complete with Bruins appearances, raffles, face painting — and most importantly, $10,000 raised for Type 1 Diabetes research.
Today, Puck4ACures is 100% volunteer-run, fueled by passion, determination, and deep love for the people in our lives affected by Type 1 Diabetes.
Please share our story, get involved, and help us continue to grow — not just across the South Shore, but throughout Massachusetts. Together, we can make a real difference.
